EW explores some regional
news highlights in the global
exhibitions industry
Miami - ReedPOP, the world’s
largest producer of pop culture
events and part of Reed Exhibitions, has
announced that Florida Supercon will
be joining its collection of global fan
conventions.
Florida Supercon is an annual
convention held in Miami, Florida
celebrating comics, superheroes, science
fiction, anime, cartoons, video games,
wrestling and all things pop culture.
Lance Fensterman, Global President of
ReedPOP, commented: “We are thrilled
with the addition of Florida Supercon to
the ReedPOP family. Mike Broder and his
team have done an amazing job in making
this show one that has incredible fan and
industry support. We plan to spend time
listening to the fans and exhibitors and
then investing.
Belgium - The EU policy on
information and promotion for
agricultural products is intended to
help open up new markets, and it has
made €200m of funding available for the
purpose. Exhibition companies active in
the sector are encouraged to apply.
Under the slogan, ‘Enjoy, it’s from
Europe’, the policy is designed to help
agricultural organisations promote EU
agri-food into international markets.
Beneficiaries can receive up to 80% EU
funding for their promotion campaigns in
the internal market or in third countries.
Programmes can cover a wide range
of issues, from general campaigns on
healthy eating to specific market sectors.

South Africa - The Cape Town
International Convention Centre
(CTICC) is rolling out its cashless services
to all clients, having initiated a cashless
system for all food and beverage stations last
year, most notably during the Cape Town
International Jazz Festival on site.
Julie-May Ellingson, CEO of the CTICC, says
that experiment was such a success last year,
they are taking it a step further.
“The cashless system is safer and so much
quicker – instead of a card, festival-goers can
simply swipe their CTIJF wristband.”
India - NürnbergMesse’s
international programme of
tradefairs has added another exhibition to
its now 16-strong portfolio.
The India Mattresstech Expo is a dedicated
tradefair for mattress and upholstery
manufacturing.
Peter Ottmann, CEO of NürnbergMesse
Group, commented: “The event covers an
important sub-segment of the furniture
industry and creates valuable synergies for
our exhibitors and visitors. It is the ideal
complement to our existing Indian events”.
