Hope for
the future
Matt Coyne, commercial
director at Visit by GES,
on embracing the fresh
perspectives of younger
industry professionals
“For young, less
experienced industry
professionals, it
can sometimes feel
like they’re in a
David versus Goliath
situation”
Having read all of the nominations,
it was a tough choice whittling down only
30 to be a part of the class of 2019.
There’s a great mix of entries,
exceptional calibre of people in
our industry…you know, the usual
sentiments. That is not to take away from
the seriousness of the entries, but it’s
the same every year. And by the same I
mean the calibre of entries is nothing less
than inspiring to read. The creativity, the
commitment, the aspirations. It’s great to
see that we have such an engaged and
enthusiastic future generation, aspiring
to achieve greatness.
We can learn so much from the
EN 30 Under 30. They bring fresh
perspectives, helping us to look at
new ways of doing things. New ways

of engaging with customers. They are
risk-takers, wanting to make a name
for themselves and their brands. They
are innovators, looking at new ways of
adapting old stories into new exciting
models for our industries customers.
For young, less experienced industry
professionals, it can sometimes feel
like they’re in a David versus Goliath
situation. It can be intimidating to join in
at our industry events, where people that
have been doing it a while, know and
talk to other people that have also been
doing it a while. Where inner circles are
hard to break into. Where sometimes,
youth isn’t necessarily seen as a positive,
and more of an indicator that “they have
a lot to learn”.
While that statement is true, they do
have so much to learn, with their eyes
wide open and their brains thirsty for
information, they also have so much to
give. They are immensely passionate
about what they do and with their
applications, while strikingly candid
and thoughtful, they show integrity to
their craft, to their teams and that they
are hungry to keep apace with our ever-
evolving industry.
Using their skills, their knowledge
and their accomplishments, it gives us
enormous hope for the future!
Congratulations Class of 2019. We
salute you.
