Sandown Park AlternAtive venue The home of Mash Media’s Festival and Outdoor Events Show has a wide array of outdoor and indoor space 63 As one of the UKÕ s best-known racecourses, Sandown Park Ð located in Esher, Surrey is also one of its leading event venues, offering 5,000sqm of event space for exhibitions, trade shows, meetings and many other events. As an events venue, Sandown Park offers a wide range of halls, suites and rooms in a variety of sizes, with capacity for up to 600 people at one event. Owned and operated by The Jockey Club Racecourses, Sandown Park occupies a unique place in British racing history. When it first opened in 1875, it was the only purpose- built racecourse. As such, it had contemporary facilities and a modern outlook – already embracing the leisure destination concept. Sandown Park was also the Queen Mother’s favourite course and provided a suitably impressive backdrop to the feats of Arkle, Mill Reef and Desert Orchid. Though it is now considered an historic venue and part of our national heritage, Sandown Park has held on to its modernising approach. The venue has developed consistently over its 140-year history and remains a leading modern and accessible racing venue. Sandown Park has a proven track record for delivering a variety of complex events to both trade and consumer audiences. “Our team uses a consultative approach to create highly successful events and we do our utmost to accommodate anything our clients want to achieve,” says Yvonne Goodright, regional conference and events marketing manager. “We do this by carefully considering their requirements and discussing their ideas.” “Then, using vast experience and expertise, our team will present several options of how the space available can be utilised to maximum effect for the client’s event.” Sandown Park offers 5,000sqm of flexible space. This includes 12 event rooms, plus private boxes in various sizes, the largest of which can accommodate 60 people for a theatre-style meeting or seat 56 for a dinner. The venue’s largest room, Surrey Hall, has good access and 3,000sqm of blank-canvas space. It is ideal for trade shows, exhibitions and large dinner and dance events. Sandown Park has 600 acres of beautiful outdoor space to offer and 3,000 free car- parking spaces. Many events return loyally year after year. Recently the venue has welcomed: • Barry Potter’s Toy Collectors Fairs (BP Fairs) is the venue’s longest-standing client. This year it celebrates its 30th year at Sandown Park. The fair attracts more than 2,500 visitors and around 300 stallholders. • Fantastic British Food Festivals held the Sandown Park Food Festival in September 2016. Promoted as perfect for families and food lovers, the event featured appearances from Great British Bake Off 2015 winner Nadiya Hussain and CBeebies presenter Katy Ashworth. • VolksWorld, a celebration of classic Volkswagen vehicles, which regularly attracts more than 16,000 people, and recently marked its 25th anniversary at Sandown Park. The organiser said: “We always bring VolksWorld back to Sandown Park Racecourse and have worked with them for 25 years. The team are so accommodating and the space is flexible enough to bring every element of the show together, from vehicles to enthusiast-clubs, stalls and attractions.” Sandown Park Business Adventures was launched in May 2017. The all-inclusive teambuilding initiative, exclusive to the racecourse, includes the ‘Sky Walk’ – a treetop challenge – golf and footgolf, dry slope skiing and go-karting at Daytona kart circuit. exhibitionnews.co.uk | October 2017
