EXHIBITION NEWS May 2017 - Page 7

EDITOR’S LETTER GO YOUR OWN WAY I n this industry, no matter how long you’re in it, we all know that there’s more than just a couple of characters you’ll meet. We also know that there isn’t a rulebook we adhere to; the true exhibition professionals seem to learn along the way and lean on each other as mentors. I can safely name a few I look up to, who have taught me along the way, who I can call up whenever in need. One thing they’ve taught me is to constantly push myself, and to follow my instincts. After fi ve years writing for this amazing magazine, I’m taking on a new challenge in the industry, and will no longer be editor of EN. What I have loved about exhibitions is that individuals, and in turn the companies they work for, have done things their own way, regardless of how others will judge them for it; because it’s what they want to do and they have belief in their convictions. Much like a proud cockatoo, a roaring lion, or the sassiest of meerkats, they take pride in standing up for themselves. A fair comparison I’d say, and one that fi ts in with this month’s cover feature as we look at how UK pet shows are on the rise. We can all agree that this industry is like no other, and I’m proud to have been part of this thriving community for the past fi ve years. While I refl ect on my time at the helm of EN , I leave you in the more than capable hands of my ambitious and creative reporter, Nicola Macdonald. Enjoy the issue and I hope to see you soon, *drops mic* ANNIE BYRNE, EDITOR abyrne@mashmedia.net exhibitionnews.co.uk | May 2017 7
