EDITOR’S LETTER HERE’S TO 2018 A nother new year, another editor’s letter talking about the challenges and changes to come in the industry. But hey, if it’s not broke don’t fi x it. It’s impossible – at least for me – to fi ght the optimism of a new year. What shows will I attend? What new industry friends will I make? How long will it take me to inevitably break my new year’s resolution? Whatever awaits us in the year ahead, the industry will no doubt continue to innovate and push the boundaries, perhaps even looking into technology with the potential to change the face of live events – like the facial recognition software being explored by US-based tech company Zenus (p37). When we asked some members of the industry what they foresaw for the year ahead, the topic of Private Equity and acquisitions raised its head. Luckily, Steve Monnington of Mayfi eld Media Strategies is on hand to provide some practical advice for organisers looking to sell (p32). In this month’s cover feature EN sits down to chat to Ruth Carter, MD of Telegraph Events, who talks about her passion for events and the possibility of launches and acquisitions in the company’s future (p18). 2018 promises to be another exciting year for the exhibition industry, but don’t fret, EN will be there with you every step of the way.
