One Day at Christmas The events industry comes together for the community I t was a cold and snowy day when EN arrived at the NEC for the second edition of One Day at Christmas, the charity event bringing Christmas joy to the local community. Elderly and lonely individuals, who might not otherwise have a chance to celebrate the kind of Christmas that many of us enjoy, arrived at the venue for a very special festive event, organised by EN publisher Mash Media. The CEVA Showfreight team expertly handled logistics for the event, navigating the last minute heavy snow and ice to deliver everyone safely to the venue. Once inside, the guests were treated to a taste of the NEC’s Manhattan-themed Christmas party offering, and were welcomed into the hall with a glass of sherry or hot beverage. A sea of Christmas jumper-wearing event profs from across the industry turned out, with some coming from as far afield as London, to help welcome guests to the event and socialise. Soon it was time to move from the reception area and onto the main event, with a tasty Christmas meal with a musical accompaniment. Then, with a jingle of bells, a slightly unorthodox Santa swept into view to serenade guests, lead a few festive singsongs and chat to the audience. The event continued with an appearance from one of Santa’s elves, who led guests in a spot of ‘boomwhacking’ and got the entire room playing as one orchestra. Finally, Santa returned for a few more Christmas hit s, before guests were safely transported home. The Mash Media team has received some lovely feedback from the event, with one message reading: “We cannot believe how we were welcomed from the time we arrived at the coach to the star welcome when arriving at the NEC, then to be given drinks before being lead into a beautiful dining area to be presented with a delicious meal and drinks. The entertainment was well thought out and so much fun. “This will be a day to remember in a world of troubles and tragedies that people can show much kindness towards us.” All in all it was another special evening, bringing festive cheer to the local community around Birmingham. Many thanks to CEVA Showfreight, the NEC and everyone who turned out to support the event. See you next year!
