asks Garcia Newell, regional business
development director – fairs and events
Europe at Agility, about his recruitment
processes
What characteristics do you look for when
looking for candidates?
I look for humble, customer-friendly, team
players, which are all essential in our business.
How did you progress to your position?
I progressed to my position by trying to do the
best I can in all the roles I have done. I keep
myself well-trained in all aspects of the job,
and never make money be a motivator.
How much importance do you place on
CVs?
CVs are important as they provide
background information pertaining to the
candidate. If the CV is prepared well then it
shouldn’t take too long to look at. Key areas I
look for is the length of time they’ve spent in
each position, their hobbies etc.
What is the most challenging aspect of
your role?
The most challenging aspect of my role is
finding new, enthusiastic talent. I’m very
much into training young people.
What are the key attributes you look for in
candidates and has this changed over the
years?
I look for candidates who are team-orientated,
open-minded to various cultures, and
optimistic, and their appearance.
What could the industry do to attract more
talent?
The industry could attend more job fairs,
universities etc. We have such a great
industry, but we don’t promote it very well to
potential candidates.
What’s the average length of service that
employers should expect nowadays?
I see a trend of three years…which I find most
disturbing.
Which industries should we target for
talent?
For me it’s about the graduates as opposed to
industries.
