BASQUE COUNTRY-GERMANY
Germany and The Basque Country are two different places . But do really things change a lot ? Well , it is true that meals are not the same , for example for German people breakfast is the most important meal of the day while here is quite different because for us the biggest meal is the one at the lunch time .
But , what is the thing that shocked them the most ? German people from the exchange ( 2016-2017 ) were really impressed by the environment in general , the mountains and the whole nature . They thought that Gaztelugatxe was incredible . The natural park of Urkiola was quite shocking for them too . What does make those two places so special ?
GAZTELUGATXE
Gaztelugatxe , located between Bakio and Bermeo , has something that catches and engages people .
It has 241 sheer stairs , but reaching the top worth . When the stairway finishes , you can place your foot on the footprint that San Juan Bautista left there , as it is supposed to bring good luck . At the top you reach an odd hermitage and above all incredible views to the wild sea , which has sculpted cliffs , tunnels …
Gaztelugatxe has been the scene of pirates , witches and legends and it has been named as wonder by a lot of tourists from all around the world .
. The ritual of ringing the bell three times :
When you reach the top do not forget to ring the bell three times and make a wish . In the past people did it to ask for fertility and to chase the bad spirits away .
