Passion by Candice Wilson What is Your Passion? If you don’t know what your passion is, then see it as an adventure. The journey to finding your passion will be fun, all you have to do is find it. Enjoy the ride! Ways to establish what your passion is: 1. Look at your childhood what did you love doing? What were the things that made you happy? What did you want to be when you grew up? When looking back on my childhood, I realised little Candy always had a piece of paper and a pencil in her hand. It drove my folk’s nuts because I would draw and paint on any available surface. I loved climbing trees, reading, swimming, dancing and riding my bike. At 28, I started art classes, and a true love affair started with oil paints. The following year I signed up for a degree in visual arts which I have been studying for the past 8 years, and I love the way my art continues to improve and brings joy to those who viewed it. I bought myself a bike, started swimming and 2 months ago I even tried rock climbing with my brother in law. Through doing all these different activities, I began to realise that I have been far too serious in my life and that I have forgotten how to play. You are never too old to play and have fun in life. Just because you have commitments doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun. 2. Bucket List Create a list of activities that you would like to do before you die. Make the list inspiring and exciting, filled with activities you would love to do. Get your friends to write their own lists too, compare notes and discover new ideas you would have never considered. An added benefit is that they can hold your hand and encourage you to go through with the crazier ones on your list. My great friend Karen organised for me to go para-gliding and kept me calm as they were strapping me into the parachute. Who willingly straps on a parachute and then runs behind a car going 50km an hour. Me, apparently and it was an amazing experience, and I am so glad she suggested it. I would have never even thought of doing it on my own. Through doing different activities you may discover a hidden passion you never knew you had. Ewya June 2016 - 9
