Having finally explored every corner of Kızılay, we are heading towards the historical places of Ankara. A considerably wide surface area contains the history of Turkey. While walking during the highest peak of temperature of the day, we finally arrived to our destination.

So, here we are at this place with amazing architecture called Anitkabır. Its literal translation means memorial tomb and is dedicated to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the first President of Turkey and the leader of the Turkish War of Independence. The construction of the mausoleum took 9 years, starting in 1944 with a special ceremony of laying down the stone. Starting from one part and ending at the opposite part of the museum, you will be able to see a lot of historical remains, including transportation vehicles, weaponry, objects, simulation of the war where wax figures are placed on the sides depicting the true nature of war, a lot of information, on-screen presentation, paintings, etc.

If you are a history nerd, this place will definitely make you visit it again, and it’s worth it. You will also see the car in which Ataturk was driving and in which his body was transported after his death. The spirit of history still can be felt in the place since a lot of memories are kept alive during all these years. If you want to learn more about Turkish people, or culture, you will find a lot to see and read.

After few hours of observing, learning, exploring and reading, we can finally say that we got a bit of taste of the Turkish people lives. Walking on the streets now is different, we observe more, pay attention to details that we didn’t notice before, listen more and see more.
