ADDING TO THE ECONOMY MicaPlex is slated to help grow the workforce by bringing more high-tech companies interested in investing in the area and hiring local graduates, both of which will add to the local economy. Daytona Beach is growing in many ways and attracting a wide variety of new businesses, but the MicaPlex is set to lead the way in helping to fuel growth specifically in high-tech areas. One of the misconceptions people have about the MicaPlex is COMMAND PERFORMANCE. When Volusia County’s manager retired in June, Volusia County Chair went directly to Deputy County Manager George Recktenwald to ask him to serve as Interim County Manager while a national search for the next permanent manager gets underway. Recktenwald is a 21-year veteran of local government management. He began his career with Volusia County Government in 1997 as Public Works Supervisor and worked his way up to Construction Manager, Road & Bridge Director, Public Works Director. He became Deputy County Manager in 2016. Along the way, Recktenwald has recognized the importance of strategic economic development and maintains an active interest in the work of Team Volusia Economic Development Corporation.
