#Winning: Senior Superlatives Happenings

Nothing crowns senior year like winning a
senior superlative. After much debate and
soul-searching, seniors
have chosen the rightful
candidates--two for each
of the 31 specific superlatives.
There were the musthave superlatives like
“The Most Likely to Succeed”, “Most Fashionable”, and “Best to Bring
Home to Mon and Dad”,
awarded to Sophie Neely
(CW)and Julienne Dawidoff (CMD), Nathan Hill
(IA) and Nikki Houston
(FTV), and Chris Huntley
(MT) and Luke Berger
(MT), respectively.
But then there were the
special superlatives like
“Most Likely to Have Their
Own Reality TV Show”,
“Best Sense of Selfie”, and
“Most Likely to Become
an International Spy”.
Most of the seniors who
won a superlative were
surprised by the award.
“A lot of seniors were
campaigning for it and
I didn’t, but surprisingly
I won something,” said
Jennal Wang (VA), who
won the “Future Makeup
Artist” superlative.
Alexis Chung (FTV)
won the “Best Snapchat
Stories.” She has over 100
friends on the social media app. “I was definitely
shocked I got one because I came last year as
a junior and I didn’t think
a lot of people would
know me to put my name
down,” she said.
“Yes, I wanted one,
just like Oprah,” admitted Hayden Allcorn (IA),
winner of the “Most Likely
to Host Their Own Talk
Show.”
So did Cole Iba (VA).
“I’ve been wanting it
since I was born—since
Day 1—so that’s why I
started working out.I just
wanted this,” Iba proudly
stated. He won the “Most
Likely to be a Superhero.”
Gabe Meacham (IM)
winner of the “Most Likely
to Lead a TED Talk” said if
he was featured in a TED
talk, he would talk about
the American education
system. In “early American public school there’s
a lot of disparity,” he said.
That eventually develops the more you go up
the system especially as
you get up to college.
There’s a difference
between people with
higher socioeconomic
backgrounds… so there’s
no way anyone has
equal opportunity, which
is something America is
supposed to provide to
the people.
And others did not see
other superlatives that suit
them best. When asked if
she could be chosen for
the different superlative,
Breanna Crane (CAH),
winner of the “Most
Likely to Survive a Zombie
Apocalypse” superlative
frankly said, “Nope. I’m
happy I got this one.”
Remembering Teri Belmer

On Jan. 30, Teri Belmer,
an OCSA volunteer and
mother of alumna Anna
Belmer (MT ‘13), passed
away after a brief battle with lung cancer. To
those who worked with
her, she was an incomparable part of their teams,
as well as a source of
positive energy. She was
widely known for treating everyone with whom
she worked as she would
a close friend or family
member.
“Teri brought a brightness to our office that we
are forever thankful for,”
said Senior Development
Associate Lori Kij.
Kij had worked with
Belmer for three years on
Gala, and described her
as a “‘must-have’ mem-
ber of [the] team. Teri
was completely dedicated to our Gala mission
and put her whole heart
and long, long hours into
all the work she did.”
Belmer was “devoted
to the school and the
MT Conservatory,” said
OCSA’s Director of Marketing, Cambria Cline.
She was an active participant in both Gala
and MONTAGE! shows,
even after her daughter’s
graduation, and was the
driving force behind the
organization of countless
fundraisers.
Belmer’s memorial services were held on Feb.
5, and were attended by
colleagues and students
alike.
Belmer is survived by
her husband, David, and
her two children, Anna
and Mickey.
