PAGE 5 News Spring Brings All Things New AP Art’s new faces Hannah Peterson & Dany Cervants Staff Writers The AP Art History teacher hired for the 2014-2015 school year, Ms. Roberts, was replaced at the beginning of February by existing fashion teacher Gwenyth Conoway and new OCSA hire Alison Harbin. “This is exactly what I imagined my art students being like,” said Harbin. Harbin, who has her PhD, has been teaching art history in college for the past three years. “OCSA students are a lot more satisfying to teach,” she said. Students say they’re happy with the new direction of the class and they’re learning more of the material. Roberts was hired when Ms. Shannon, the previous AP art history teacher, left. Although heartbreaking for students, Shannon since received her PhD, and still plays in her band The Beauty Marks. Vance-Freeland Adds to Family Mrs. Vance-Freeland and her son, Collin James Freeland Photo courtesy of: Rebecca Vance-Freeland First year counselor, Mrs. Vance-Freeland gave birth to her son, Collin James Freeland, on Feb. 2 in Long Beach, CA. The new baby boy weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz., and he has since been very active and thriving. Baby Freeland enjoys going on walks and watching the family dog, Lily, play, according to Freeland, who has since returned to work. “He’s growing, he’s happy, and he likes to stay up late,” she said. Sounds like a regular OCSA student. SPRING 2015 Back to School Surprise Jake A. Simmons Guest Writer An unexpected fire alarm sent students from the Tower into the 10th Street saftey zone April 13, the first day back from spring break. According to an email released by Dr. William Wallace, assitant principal, a blocked pipe was responsible for false alarm, not a mischevious student or an actual fire. “[A] leak formed, and water worked its way into one of the smoke sensors on the 2nd floor,” the statement said. Students were just returning from lunch, so, somewhat conveniently, were already at or close to their evacuation areas. Though not a serious crisis, students cheered the fire truck as it arrived on campus as if if had been an actual emergency. Before it was fixed, the burst pipe closed bathroo
