The AP Art History
teacher hired for the
2014-2015 school
year, Ms. Roberts,
was replaced at the
beginning of February by existing fashion teacher Gwenyth
Conoway and new
OCSA hire Alison
Harbin.
“This is exactly
what I imagined my
art students being
like,” said Harbin.
Harbin, who has
her PhD, has been
teaching art history in
college for the past
three years.
“OCSA students are
a lot more satisfying
to teach,” she said.
Students say
they’re happy with
the new direction of
the class and they’re
learning more of the
material.
Roberts was hired
when Ms. Shannon,
the previous AP art
history teacher, left.
Although heartbreaking for students,
Shannon since received her PhD, and
still plays in her band
The Beauty Marks.

First year counselor, Mrs. Vance-Freeland
gave birth to her son, Collin James Freeland,
on Feb. 2 in Long Beach, CA.
The new baby boy weighed 7 lbs. 3 oz.,
and he has since been very active and thriving.
Baby Freeland enjoys going on walks and
watching the family dog, Lily, play, according to Freeland, who has since returned to
work.
“He’s growing, he’s happy, and he likes to
stay up late,” she said.
Sounds like a regular OCSA student.
SPRING 2015
Back to
School
Surprise

An unexpected fire
alarm sent students
from the Tower into
the 10th Street saftey
zone April 13, the first
day back from spring
break.
According to an
email released by
Dr. William Wallace,
assitant principal, a
blocked pipe was
responsible for false
alarm, not a mischevious student or an
actual fire.
“[A] leak formed,
and water worked its
way into one of the
smoke sensors on the
2nd floor,” the statement said.
Students were just
returning from lunch,
so, somewhat conveniently, were already
at or close to their
evacuation areas.
Though not a serious crisis, students
cheered the fire truck
as it arrived on campus as if if had been
an actual emergency.
Before it was fixed,
the burst pipe closed
