PAGE 14 Avery Mann Staff Writer Senior Eliana Adise (IA) has spent several of the last months on set filming the upcoming major motion picture release “Joy,” also starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert DeNiro. Directed by Oscar-winner David O. Russell, the film features Adise as Lawerence’s daughter. “Joy” tracks a family across four generations and the rise of one woman (Lawrence) as “the founder and matriarch of a powerful family business dynasty,” according to Adise. Adise competed against thousands of talented young actresses for the role. “It was an amazing ex- Arts Katniss is my Mom perience getting to work in a professional setting,” said Adise. Though starring in the full-length feature, Adise was not exempt from swooning over the other celebrities. The senior admitted, “I did get star struck, but I kept it on the inside. Outside I was calm, cool, and collected.” Director of Integrated Arts Heather Stafford said, “It’s bloody awesome,” that Adise is in the film, “and it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving girl.” Adise trasnsferred into IA after one year in Creative Writing. She had also done other extra work fro major motion productions in the past, but this is her first featured role. It’s fairly common for performing art conservatories to encourage students to attend auditions out of school, which is what Adise did for the role. Contrary to popular belief, OCSA has a policy enabling students to audition for projects without receiving an unex- cused absence if the audition is professional and paid, verified Stafford and Director of Musical Theatre, Jeff Paul. Above all else, Adise said she “wants the audience that goes to see the movie to remember all of the work that went into the making of the film.” Going to school in an art environment can be hectic for some, but here at OCSA, it helps to have the encouragement of other artists to continue to pursue your passion. Be sure to support fellow OCSA student Adise by going to the movies to catch the flick this Christmas.
