POWER TOOLS 101

When the phrase “ weekend shopping ” comes up , it usually doesn ’ t involve the purchasing of power tools . If you ’ re a homeowner , however , you often run into that pesky question of , “ what should I have on hand ?” Power tools break down into several categories : The Everyday Homeowner , The DIY-er , and The Specialist . First , determine which group you fall into , then stock your toolshed accordingly .

THE EVERYDAY HOMEOWNER

This category is where you ’ ll find all the basic tools . Most of these don ’ t fall into line with being actual power tools , but there are variations that will require power , depending on personal usage and quality preference . Every homeowner should have some style of the following : Hammer , multi-tip screwdriver , level , wrench , pliers , ladder , drill , and a tape measure .
These are the things you need if you are only completing simple tasks around the house , such as hanging pictures or installing a floating shelf . The everyday homeowner tool kit is not capable of handling bigger projects , so you will need to purchase or rent additional power tools to accomplish a desired result .
If you are taking on one or two projects , and you don ’ t normally do a lot of handy work , then it is suggested that you rent the necessary equipment .
If you ’ re the hands-on type , then purchasing these tools may be better in the long run , as you will probably need them again later on .
