Daydream in Blue
Styled shoot in Salcombe
These images were inspired by Devon’s hid-
den paradise, Salcombe. This styled shoot
captures a tranquil and laid-back essence.
The tablescape uses cool blue and green
tones from pretty glass vases mirroring the
sea. Hessian napkins with natural wood
napkin rings, and twin coasters represent
the sandy beach. The table was captured in
the Assembly Room of Cliff House on Sal-
combes sea front. The light aqua colour of
the room really offsets the white of the ta-
ble and strong blues of the chairs. We chose
silver as metallic colour so compliment the
cool blues. Even the shape of the tumbler
glass and wine glass have a bubbly water
feel.
For the second part of the shoot we went
down the road to North Sands beach, a
small cove between two hills. Again, blue
tone and organic beige textures mirrored
the beach environment. The blue sofas sat
perfectly on the sand. The single chair with
its back to the sea sat on the tide just as it
was going out. The full chill out area set up
had a slightly more nautical feel, with the
white beach posts and compass side table.
We loved the use of botanical plants and
would of used more if we had them with us.
The contrast between the dark rock and the
white of the set up gives a brilliant contrast
making the set up feel fresh and tranquil.
We also added a few detail shots with a
shell and button bouquet from Pumpkin
and Pye and hand dyed silk bridal shoe
from Rainbow Club, both lovely local sup-
pliers. The bouquet had pink and pearl ac-
cents which meant it wasn’t lost in the blue
and whites of the props. The shoes were a
strong blue tone, seen on the white usher-
ette tray, they really stand out.
Finally, we made an intimate aisle where
there was no need for an arch or backdrop
at the end as the sea view was all that was
needed.
Styling hack: We used curtain loops as nap-
kin holders. Choose a natural wood tone or
use spray paint to suit your colour scheme.
