Marlene & Cameron With the couple based in Dubai - Marlene originally from South Africa and Cam from Australia - we knew it was going to be a great mix of guests. One month after getting engaged, the couple legally married and although they hoped to have their wedding a few months after that, they soon realised that planning a wedding a.) in South Africa and b.) when you are based in Dubai is not an easy task so they decided on 11 months later. The venue – Strandkombuis was an easy choice for them with its close proximity to the beach and relaxed, rustic setting, they instantly fell in love. With only 60 guests, Strandkombuis was the perfect venue for the couple. Being a little rustic, Marlene wanted to spruce it up and make it a bit more elegant. We added soft pink elements like stunning Protea’s – the brides favourite – in wooden containers, and bunches of baby’s breath in tall glass vases. We placed the floral arrangements on lace runners which softened the rustic, wooden tables which gave the venue a hint of sophistication. We placed a dusty pink water glass at each setting to really compliment the overall look and feel. Event Affairs // Weddings It’s not your usual ‘Captain falls in love with Stewardess and they live happily ever after’. This Emirates Crew couple feel in love in a typical red English telephone booth situated on Leverick Bay in the British Virgin Islands whilst visiting for a sailing regatta. With a significant age gap between them, Marlene 31 years old and Cameron, 53, their friends and family were doubtful of whether it would work out between them but in the couple’s words “we’re such a match, the age gaps just melts away”. The initial plan was to get married on the beach, as this was Marlene’s dream, however the infamous West Coast wind had other plans and so we moved the ceremony inside the venue which still offered a gorgeous view of the beach but well-protected from the wind. Once the Bride descended the aisle in her gorgeous Gert van der Merwe dress, the bridal party squished together to take a selfie, leaving the guests in giggles which instantly relaxed the mood of the beautiful and thoughtful ceremony. After the ceremony, our little helpers swiftly removed the benches and wedding arch to create the perfect pre-dinner drinks setting. Here, Marlene and Cam decided to cut their Cheese Tower wedding cake so guests could nibble on cheese, biscuits and delicious preserves whilst the couple had their photo’s on the beach. [05]
