Mary Ann Sengvilayheuang – Philly's Best Healing Hands Mobile Massage Therapist/ business owner/ Spouse interviewed by Luke Torres EVDG: Where are you from and what is your nationality? MS: Laotian which is in Southeast Asia and I am from Willow Grove , Pa. EVDG: What were the steps to becoming a business owner? MS: I saw the commercial to go to school for massage therapist and I already knew how so my father took me to the school. He told me he would not sign for anything for me now that I was 18 and if I wanted to do something with my life I had to do it on my own but I would not be lazy. Besides that out of all of my friends I wanted to make a career and to make my own money. EVDG: Is it hard to be a parent and a business owner. MS:Yes, because we don't have a set schedule and it's hard to find a babysitter or no one's home to stay with your kids. You don't wanna turn down the money but... EVDG: How do you balance that now. MS: I used to work 2 or 3 jobs and I felt like a part time parent at times but since I met my husband his family has been such a big help and I would miss the events like soccer and school but now that I am a business owner I can set my own schedule. I can sit and eat with them , do their schoolwork and I can work when I want or not. EVDG: Are there any goals you have for your business in the future. MS: Yes, that is a great question . Now that I have been doing massage for 11 ½ years I was becoming bored with my techniques so I wanted to go back to school for pet message and speech therapy. Both would benefit my business. AS well as many of my clients are pet lovers so I would be able to offer a service where they would get pampered and massage along with their pet. EVDG: That sounds amazing. Is there anything you would change or do differently in your life? MS: I would hate to say it but I would have waited to have kids until I was a little more accomplished with my career. I became pregnant while I was in massage school then graduating was hard because no one wanted to hire a pregnant person.
