PROJECT OVERVIEW
Ranging from fine art to fashion and jewelry, BOOK
OF DREAMS-VOLUME III explores many facets of
Swarovski’s crystal universe. Created by Markus Langes-
Swarovski, Member of the Swarovski Executive Board,
and Creative Director Giovanna Engelbert, this season’s
issue was developed in collaboration with Garage
Magazine, the cutting-edge, New York-based art and
fashion publication.
The over-125-pages book, with a crystal-embellished
metal cover, is designed as a “true objet d’art”. Each of
the 500 limited-edition volumes is carefully embedded
in a handcrafted wooden crate inspired by the well-
recognized cases commonly used for transporting
artworks. This third issue boasts three cover versions,
each featuring a different portrait created by the
American artist Mickalene Thomas. Among an incredible
group of creative minds, Thomas is joined by artists
Martine Gutierrez and Raúl de Nieves, among others,
who were given free rein to conjure unique artworks,
each integrating Swarovski crystals or pearls in their
own unique way. The result is a kaleidoscope of never-
before-seen crystalized art pieces and a celebration of
the contemporary imagination.

VOLUME III
warovski and Garage Magazine celebrated the
launch of Book of Dreams Volume III : The Art Issue with
a cocktail exhibition, followed by an after party featuring
DJ Honey Dijon. Guests experience a multi-set installation
realizing the art created for Swarovski’s newest iteration
of Book of Dreams by Mickalene Thomas, Martine
Gutierrez, and Raúl de Nieves.

CREATIVE INSPIRATIONS
BOOK OF DREAMS takes André Breton, the father of
Surrealism, as its north star. “What could be done with
crystals, except make rivers of them?” Breton once asked;
the artists, photographers and stylists here follow that
poetic mandate in wild directions. “The project is as vibrant
and unexpected as Surrealism itself, defying conventions
and welcoming new dreams of what Swarovski crystals
can inspire,” says Creative Head Giovanna Engelbert. “We
are very proud to have been able to gather the voices of
some of the 21st century’s most free-thinking creatives in
this very special issue.”
