Like Essential Vancouver, celebrating 30 years of publication in
2016, the Inukshuk standing sentinel on English Bay in the West
End came to the city in the year of Expo 86. The stone landmark,
an “inuksuk” in Inuktitut, fronted the Northwest Territories
Pavilion at the world’s fair. It was adopted by the 2010 Winter
Olympics to symbolize welcome and friendship
