Essential Toronto Magazine 2017 | Page 8

A note from the editor Each year, Toronto welcomes more than 40 million visitors—and with the city’s wealth of exciting attractions, swank restaurants and luxury shopping options, it’s not hard to see why. To make the most of your trip, whether it be a short stay or longer sojourn, the city experts at Essential Toronto have compiled this annual guide to the best the city has to offer. Starting on page 17, we’ve highlighted the city’s top shopping destinations. Visit high-end department stores, like Holt Renfrew and Nordstrom, to find that perfect pair of Prada heels (on your own, or with the help of a personal shopper), or stroll through the city’s shopping districts to find local boutiques and designers. Of course, one of the best things about visiting a new city is the food. Beginning on page 35, discover Toronto’s diverse dining scene, including the creative Canadian tasting menu at Canoe, fresh aburi sushi at Miku or hearty steaks at Jacobs & Co. Pair your shopping and dining with a foray into the local arts scene: Toronto has a rich cul- tural legacy, complete with operas, ballets, plays and performances, not to mention high-calibre art galleries and museums. Plan your night out starting on page 45. Toronto is often called the city of neigh- bourhoods, and for good reason. Walk a few blocks in any direction and you’re bound to find an interesting pocket of town, with its own distinct charm and individual character. Flip to the Explore section on page 50 to get a sense of trendy Ossington Avenue, the lively Entertainment District, heritage-steeped Old Town, tony Bloor-Yorkville and the pedestrian- only Distillery District. I hope you enjoy getting to know our city. Have a great trip!
