Meridian Unveils New Dealer School
Training Initiative
Meridian Audio’s new ‘Dealer School’ is the company’s updated and
expanded training programme designed to give installers the full
range of skills and knowledge they need to integrate AV technology
within the home and deliver a premium experience for their clients.
The Dealer School programme features new dedicated training
on four key areas – Meridian Basic Setup, Meridian Advanced Setup,
Home Cinema Essentials and Meridian Sooloos; as well as two
existing CEDIA Certified courses – Two Channel Master Class and
Multi-Channel Master Class.
Hugo Fitzjohn, Meridian Audio’s technical education and sales
support manager, said that in the year of its 40th anniversary,
the launch of Meridian’s Dealer School is further evidence of the
company’s commitment to the professional home technology sector.
Hugo said: “Attending ’Dealer School’ will help fast-track learning
for integrators in new, important areas. This represents a significant
expansion in the support that we offer to those dealers who are as
committed as we are to providing a premium audio visual experience.”
All courses are free for dealers to attend and each take place over
one day.

4K Blu-rays Available In
High Dynamic Range (HDR)
The Revenant will
be available on HDR
4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
this year
If you’re Googling this topic, then there’s a good chance you are
already familiar with High Dynamic Range (HDR). If not, HDR is the
latest technology to adorn modern TV sets and it’s being heralded
as the true advancement in picture quality, with experts believing the
technology is even more important than 4K Ultra HD.
It’s no surprise either – while 4K UHD simply pushes through more
pixels, leading to sharper looking images, HDR brings additional
colours and a brighter image to the table. In essence, it improves the
pixels rather than pumping through more.
HDR:10 is the standard that can be found on most HDR-
compatible TVs launched in 2016. Unlike competing standard Dolby
Vision, HDR:10 is an open standard available to all manufacturers and
supported by the Ultra HD Alliance.
HDR:10 brings a wider colour gamut, a 10-bit colour gamut to be
exact. That’s a marked increase in the number of colours available on
a TV set – which is typically 8-bit currently.
These are the HDR 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays available in the UK this year:
Planet Earth II, The Revenant, Hacksaw Ridge, Passengers, Star
Trek Into Darkness, IMAX Adventure, Underworld: Blood Wars, Fast &
Furious 7, Deadpool, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Patriots Day, The
Lego Movie, Lone Survivor and Unforgiven.
