Home Cinema Insight | Audio Formats Sounds Like A Great Idea For A Demo What are the latest and greatest titles to show off the power of the new 3D audio and enhanced visual formats? Content To Take Advantage Of 3D Object-Based Audio Formats Whether it’s Auro 3D, DTS:X or Dolby Atmos – there’s plenty of content around to show off the full power of 3D surround sound. Game of Thrones Season 1 – 5 | Dolby Atmos Game of Thrones is the biggest TV show franchise of all time. What better way to demonstrate the power of 3D object-based audio than the immensely immersive world of Westeros? Lone Survivor | DTS:X DTS:X is the new format on the block and as such there aren’t many titles currently available; those with a DTS:X set-up can enjoy this war film about the failed SEALs mission dubbed Operation Redwings, however. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre | Auro 3D Despite being 42 years old, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is still a classic – and it’s a classic that can be enjoyed in 3D surround sound thanks to a remastering in Auro 3D. Star Trek Into Darkness | Dolby Atmos Star Trek Into Darkness may not be as popular as the original reboot of Star Trek, but thanks to a powerful performance by Benedict Cumberbatch and some sharp visuals, this film is ideal for showing off Dolby Atmos. Gravity | Dolby Atmos This was one of the first films to show off the true benefits of Dolby Atmos and it’s completely obvious why. Thanks to the incredible sound mixing, this film will have viewers in constant suspense when paired with Atmos. Deadpool | Dolby Atmos Probably the most unexpected hit of 2016, Deadpool manages to match comedy with epic action. This is a film that cannot be missed and what better way to enjoy it than in Dolby Atmos? Content To Take Advantage Of HDR And 4K UHD HDR is the new kid on the block when it comes to content formats, but despite its infancy the technology already has a tonne of content behind it. Those wishing to enjoy Dolby Vision will have to settle on streaming services however, as it’s currently not supported on BluRay discs in the UK. The Revenant | HDR | Ultra HD Blu-Ray Scooping the best cinematography award at the 2016 Oscars’ this film is visually stunning. Those who are fans of blood, revenge themes and beautiful landscapes should look no further than The Revenant. Bosch | Dolby Vision | Amazon Video Cop shows are a dime a dozen, but this Amazon Original is dark, enjoyable and different in all the right ways. With a real essence of ‘film noir’ it’s also one of the few select titles available in Dolby Vision. Marco Polo | Dolby Vision | Netflix While not the best Netflix original series on offer, it’s the sheer visuals that make Marco Polo a must-watch in HDR. Those who are fans of blood, gore and more should definitely start streaming it. Mad Max | HDR | Ultra HD Blu-Ray Mad Max scooped the most awards at the 2016 Oscars and it’s easy to see why – this film is a visual feast. Director George Miller was praised for the elaborate visual effects and there’s no better way to see those effects than in HDR. The Martian | HDR | Ultra HD Blu-Ray Matt Damon is lost once again; in The Martian he’s stranded on Mars and has to fight to survive in order to return back to Earth. The Lego Movie | HDR | Ultra HD Blu-Ray This was an unexpected success that featured catchy music, fun visuals and a surprisingly enjoyable storyline. That same experience is now available in both 4K and HDR. 28 | September 2016 Audio Formats.indd 28 26/09/2016 17:41
