Company Founders Win
Entrepreneur Award
The founders and owners of smart homes
technology and AV specialists Cyberhomes
have won one of this year’s Great British
Entrepreneur Awards.
The award was presented to Andy Mack and Ion Smith who founded Cyberhomes in 2004 and
recognises how they have steered and grown the company over the last 12 years to the point
where they are now winning projects worth over £500,000 each. The category the company won
was ‘Smart Home/Internet of Things Entrepreneur of the Year 2016’.
The ceremony was held at Lancaster Hotel, London on November 22 and the award was
presented by popular comedian and broadcaster Hardeep Singh Kholi.
Cyberhomes director Ion Smith said: “This award came a bit out of the blue to be honest.
We’ve had our heads down designing and installing great technology solutions for our clients, so
to be recognised like this from outside our niche industry is a genuine honour.”
Cyberhomes director Andy Mack said: “I’m really proud of the company we’ve built; and it was
great to find ourselves alongside other highly respected entrepreneurs that were shortlisted or won
their respective categories. Thanks also to the sponsors, including NatWest and Kingston Smith,
who helped make this all possible.”
Cyberhomes work closely with clients, architects, developers, interior designers and
M&E consultants to integrate control and AV systems with the overall building design and
performance. The Cyberhomes founders have a background in live broadcast studio technology
for the BBC and take the same rigorous approach with the equipment, cabling and software
behind home automation projects.

Award winning architect Ole Scheeren will present the Integrated Systems
Europe Opening Address on February 6, less than 24 hours before the show
opens its doors. Organisers say his speech will provide the culmination to
an exciting day of events that will include the Smart Building Conference
and the launch of extensive educational programmes delivered by tr ade
associations CEDIA and InfoComm International. The Official Opening
Reception for ISE 2017 will follow the conclusion of the speech.

As well as setting the scene for ISE 2017, Ole will provide the climax to

the Smart Building Conference. Each year the one-day summit explores
the latest commercial and residential smart building technologies,
business strategies, market research and workflow case studies, featuring some of the world’s
leading smart building experts and thought leaders. This year’s event will focus on how the IoT
‘Makes Smart Buildings Even Smarter’.
Confirmed speakers include: Aglaia Kong and Kathy Farrington from Google; Bernhard Huessy
from nomos system; Claus Lohse from a/c/t/ Beratungs & System; James McHale from Memoori;
Matthew Marson from Accenture Connected Space and Paul Foulkes from Echohouse Energy.
At ISE 2017 CEDIA and InfoComm International will be running their most comprehensive
education and training programmes so far seen at this exhibition. These will both begin on the
pre-show day.
Courses will include CEDIA’s interactive Home Cinema Design Workshop with Guy Singleton
from Imagine This. In addition, there will be three full-day CEDIA courses taking place which
will covering Rack Building and Wiring Fundamentals with Nick Pidgeon from Visualization;
Advanced Residential Networking with Geoff Meads from Presto AV and Principles of Project
Management with Simon Buddle.
InfoComm International will premiere its 2.5 day CTS Prep course with Marcus Yarborough,
designed to prepare students for the CTS exam which students will be able to take on-site at the
RAI during the show days of ISE 2017.
The Opening Address, which will take place in the Forum at 18:00 on February 6 and will be
followed by the Official Opening Reception in the Forum Lounge until 21:00. Both events are
free-to-attend.
