Owen outlines the main reasons why people don ’ t do more training , and has put them to task : “ I ’ m an evangelist for training in general , and especially CEDIA training ”, he says , “ so I ’ ve heard most reasons why people don ’ t do more .
“ People often say , ’ We don ’ t need any training ,’ but I meet people from Andrew Lucas , New Land Solutions , Grahams , Cyberhomes , among others . ConnectedWorks were honoured as Finalists in the 2016 CEDIA EMEA awards , one year after joining CEDIA and two years after starting the business .” Owen believes the training helped .
“ Others comment , ‘ We don ’ t have time ’, but with projects ongoing . With projects ongoing , finding time for training can be hard . However , the right courses will generate better and more profitable work . Why not take the risk and start ?
“ I always hear , ‘ We can ’ t afford it ’ yet CEDIA courses are not expensive . CEDIA courses are not expensive . We ’ re lucky that CEDIA is member-run and not-forprofit . Outreach training – including CAP – is free . Some manufacturer courses are chargeable , but generally excellent value .”
Owen concludes , “ Training will improve your business . The real question is , can you afford not to do more ?”
