Acoustics Made Easy
In these amazing days of immersive audio formats , it is easy to forget that the sound from the speakers is only part of what we hear . The other part of the sound experience are the characteristics of the room itself . Good acoustics maximise the potential of the system and ensure that the client ’ s cinema experience is of the highest order . Neil Davidson explains how to get the best .
All too often , acoustic treatment uses one of these approaches :
1 . It ’ s too complicated for me – do nothing ! 2 . I use loads of rock wool – makes the room nice and dead ! 3 . I get an expert to help – hopefully they know about cinema acoustics !
Interestingly , option 1 is usually a much better choice than option 2 , despite the endless photos of cinema builds suggesting otherwise , but wouldn ’ t it be better if there was an option 2.5 , to use real acoustic treatments created by experts in home cinema , who have created easy rules to ensure good results in most rooms ?

Cinema-ATS Scattering Panel is used to provide control of reflections and to meet Cinema-ATS reverberation targets . 12 Scattering panels are included in each pack . Each of the panels is 300x300x50mm in size which makes it easy to store and transport while also minimising any cuts needed to fit the panels into a room and limiting the lost space in the room .
It is possible to deliver excellent results with just two Cinema-ATS Packs and performance is steadily increased as more Packs are added , up to a maximum of 10 in total , where all four walls and the ceiling are treated .
