iRemoteControl has been working on a new interface for the new Oppo 4K disc player
Offering a little more detail on some of the latest controllers , the KX10 in-wall touch panel , has been created to deliver an authoritative impression via its high resolution 10in display , which provides enough screen real estate to create a really bespoke feel for the client . The KX10 is also equipped with an HDBaseT video input for viewing HD video directly on the widescreen display . Ethernet connectivity means users can check security cameras and answer the door via the built-in intercom . Direct control can be via integrated IR and RS232 ports , or of course via integration with a full RTI system . This product currently supports VoIP intercom , with video intercom support to be added via future firmware update . Smaller in scale , RTI ’ s KX3 3.5in in-wall touch panel keypad with an integrated XP Control Processor is suited to homes , offices and conference rooms . The device combines the capabilities of an in-wall touchscreen interface and a control processor into a customisable cost effective unit . The KX3 also has a proximity sensor to wake up the unit as a user approaches and room status LEDs to indicate a room ’ s availability for a meeting . Installation flexibility comes from a number of features including wired 10 / 100 Base-T Ethernet and wireless Ethernet capabilities for viewing video from network cameras and performing remote programming updates . Also equipped with a control processor , future firmware updates will enable benefits such as direct two-way control via IP and RS232 , as well as an astronomical clock for time-based events and an embedded 2.4 GHz ZigBee antenna for connectivity with RTI wireless remotes . Other features that will come as part of these updates , including six voltage sense ports , four relays and a camera to accommodate the integrated video intercom functionality .
RTI is another company which sees value in offering cutting edge control , but in a more familiar handheld ‘ remote control ’ design with the T3x . The unit has a 3.5in flush-mount high-resolution touchscreen , fully programmable soft-touch buttons and grip sensors . An accelerometer , two-way control , WiFi and dual RF are also included as is haptic feedback on the touchscreen , giving the user a gentle vibration as confirmation of a button press . A built-in camera and microphone are also included providing video intercom support directly on the remote .
For fans of off the shelf interfaces , iRemoteControl continues to offer some innovative downloaded solutions . Working with v6.0 of the system , installers are able to specify the products they need to control via the company ’ s online portal and receive a downloaded control solution and interface that is ready to rock . Recent updates include automatic satellite and Freeview channel updates meaning that through a flick of a switch users or installers can update the iRemoteControl software with the latest favourite channels for FreeView , Sky , Virgin and BT YouView .
As well as the ‘ no programming needed ’ aspect of the system , a popular feature has always been the virtual remotes which are already familiar interfaces . Recent additions include the new range of Samsung and SONY 4K Blu-ray players as well as the brand new flagship Oppo 4K player .
The company has also developed a simplified online order form so that on average all the room information required to control room can be completed in under 300 seconds or five minutes per room . The turnaround of custom code is now within eight working hours says the company and the last update to mention is compatibility with the ‘ Parallax Effect ’ which means the virtual remote appears to float above the chosen backdrop of which there are over 100 choices . Installers can also submit backdrop photos of the rooms themselves is required .
