drew him to Berlin. However, his choice to live in Berlin was influenced by his romanticised perception of Weimar Germany as opposed to the reality of the harsh, divided political landscape of the Berlin of the 1970’s. This forced Bowie, in my opinion, to take the narrative of decline a step further, by weaving it into the sonic elements of his music as well as the lyrically, in an attempt to comment fully upon the social and political climate present in Berlin at the time, whilst drawing in on the comparisons of his home in Britain and how that impacts how he saw the version of Berlin that he was surrounded by.
