(Environmental Product Declaration) is a must for
tensile structures’ environmental development
and an inevitable short term objective.
The three R’s of Tensile Structures
What are the most important strategies applicable to the improvement of sustainability in tensile
structures? If sustainability depends on the closure
of a material’s cycle (eliminating residue) caused
by the habitability generated, then we can apply
the three R’s rule.
a) Reduce
Reduce means using less: less material, less
energy, less contamination…If we look at tensile
structures we can see this reduction in its weight.
Some air supported coverings of hundreds of
square metres can weigh as little as 1 kg/m2. It
would be hard to find another construction system
that compares to this.
This means using less material, less raw material,
less transport (important when considering
contamination), less assembly methods and
ultimately, less end of life cycle residue. And
this lightness doesn’t only come from using the
estructural. La tracción es el esfuerzo que requiere
menos material, sin importar la dimensión del
elemento.
