Chapter 11 Working Around a Back Injury This chapter is going to be about my personal experiences with training abs around a severe lower back injury. This isn't meant to replace the advice your doctor gives. That being said a lot of doctors and physical therapists are giving advice that does more damage than good. If you have a low back injury I would HIGHLY recommend you pick up “Low Back Disorders” by Stuart McGill. If you have a back injury, I feel your pain (literally)! These days my back doesn't hurt at all, but I went through 10+ years of “on and off” back pain. When your back hurts it is tough to find enjoyment in any activity. It really sucks. If you have back pain, I advise you to avoid the “flexing” movements. 40
