Porsche appeared to find an extra gear in qualifying by locking outthe front row for the for the 6 Hours of Nurburgring by a clear second ahead of German rivals Audi.

Heading into qualifying Audi looked to have a bit more speed in hand reverting to their Spa aero configuration, while Porsche appeared to have well and truly wiped the slate clean over any questions of long run pace.

Romain Dumas set down the early marker with his combined timeenough to lead the #17 Porsche by just 0.069 seconds. Any attack from Webber was called off early with Porsche happy to concede a one second deficit to Audi and lock out the front row.

Audi took second row honours with the #8 eTron Quattro finishing up in third position with Lucas di Grassi heading Andre Lotterer.

Toyota Gazoo Racing had a shaky start to qualifying with the #2 TS040 of Alexander Wurz running wide at the chicane. The Cologne outfit eventually had to settle for the third row; cars #1 and #2 taking 5th and 6th positions respectively.

Formula E combatants Nick Heidfeld and Nicolas once again joined forces to put the #12 Rebellion on the LMP1 Privateer front row ahead of the #13 sister car of Daniel Apt and Dominik Kraihamer.

It was a case of Sam Bird vs Nick Tandy in the battle for LMP2 honours, with new recruit Tandy taking pole position by eight-tenths of a second ahead of G-Drive, with the sister car of Gustavo Yackaman in third.

Putting their balance of performance gripes behind them, Aston Martin Racing hit back early in the hands of Richie Stanaway, but it wasn’t before the #51 AF Corse Ferrari of Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander took pole position just half a second ahead of the sister car of James Calado and Davide Rigon.

Christphoer Nygaard and Marco Sorensen picked up a few of the pieces for Aston Martin in third.

Aleksey Basov took the LM GTE Am pole; co-driven by Andrea Bertonlini and Victor Shaytar.
