More questions than answers

With Formula E test results in, we’ve come up with more questions than answers heading into the opening round in Beijing.

Are some teams sandbagging? Have others bitten off more than they can chew? Or have Team Aguri played a blinder by playing the conservative game? In an effort to unearth what’s happening under the surface out tech sleuth Stefan Ruitenberg has trained his eye across the garages to try and simplify the scenario in what is becoming a technological game of cat and mouse – or rather hare and tortoise.

In this issue we also catch up with Hartmut Kristen, the man who spearheaded Porsche AG for two decades. Hartmut has always been forthright in his views on the sport and doesn’t hold back – especially in the area of Balance of Performance.

Speaking of which, Aston Martin Racing are said to have their noses out of joint with the revised Balance of Performance since Le Mans, a senior team figure suggesting that a figure for potential ultimate pace for their cars was surmised through estimating a lap time that their driver Nikki Thiim might have achieved at Spa, despite the driver not attending the event. If this is true then the horse has well and truly jumped the cart.
