Jean-Eric Vergne winged his way to pole position for the Moscow ePrix in flamboyant fashion ahead of title protagonists, Nelson Piquet, Lucas di Grassi and Sebastien Buemi.

Vergne set an initial time that was good enough for P2, but a stunning second flyer managed to secure the top spot – despite losing the back-end of his Andretti FE and brushing the wall at the final corner.

Nicolas Prost, Stephane Sarrazin and Karun Chandok also experienced a few nervous moments over the bumpy Moscow circuit, with Chandok lucky to emerge unscathed after performing a 360 degree pirouette in his Mahindra on the back sweeper – while Karun has had little luck this year the incident might convince him to buy a lottery ticket!

Nelson Piquet set provisional pole early in the first session and was set for a nervous wait whilst the remaining three group attempted to better the Brazilian’s time. An unhappy Sebastien Buemi however, was left to rue a lost opportunity after being balked on his fast lap by Jaime Alguesuari (who was summoned to the race director to explain his actions).

After losing his win retrospectively in Berlin, Lucas di Grassi was out for blood, but despite benefitting from slightly grippier conditions, the ABT title contender could only manage 3rd behind his title rival Piquet and one spot ahead of Buemi.
