Auto Exotica At The Canadian International Auto Show

Do you remember those times as a child, when your parents drove past a local shopping mall; you peered through the backseat window to see the midway rides had been setup in the parking lot?

As you wandered through the store looking at all the new toys, you couldn't help but obsess over being first in line to hop in the spinning tea-cup ride. If you were good, after a trip to Woolco (I'm dating myself there), your parents would buy a strip of ride tickets.

Front Street entrance of the MTCC and seeing the Auto Exotica sign evoked a feeling of nostalgia. It brought back that feeling of looking out the backseat window of dad's red '69 Camaro and seeing that tea-cup ride. I still leave this exhibit of exotic cars and dream machines to the end of each visit. Even going to the show on Press Preview day as media, Auto Exotica is left for last and only made better by the closing reception complete with bar service and snacks.

After a day of networking and presentations from all of the auto manufacturers, there really is no better way to end it all. If you're a car nut like I am, these exotics are the cherry on the top...of the cherry on top of the vanilla-chocolate Sunday covered in whipped cream. Velvet rope or half-glass walls keep us all just far enough away to keep our drool off the cars and the "dream" in dream car.

Very few of us get the chance to drive these exotics and most times our interaction with them is though a magazine or mobile device. Seeing them in the flesh is arousing...like being in the lobby of the RoyalYork, and seeing Scarlett Johansson walk by just a few steps away, just out of reach...
