Twitter has a program called Twitter Amplify with the ability to post live broadcast video into a tweet. The big digital media trend in sports that has been identified is the idea of social TV i.e. the idea of connecting live video with social media users together. Whether that is watching TV and interacting with what is happening on TV through social media or watching live sports in social media. Unfortunately I don't think Formula 1 is ready for this now - more like 10 years down the road.”

Moderator: Some of us already do this in some way since most of us live-tweet during races anyway only it’s not as integrated as what you call “social TV”

BS: “Add to that, I’ve been to several races and I can never get wifi coverage at race tracks.” DC: “Typically it has to do with the load as well. Here in Austin, AT&T will bring it out additional towers to deal with the absolute overload of people trying to access wifi at one time.

By the way, one thing they were thinking of doing last year in terms of Bernie Ecclestone and Marissa Pace who is FOM Digital Media Manager. They were talking about how they do want to acknowledge that there needs to be more need Instant Video happening either with F1 app, on the F1.com site or with YouTube. Marissa used to work for Kangaroo TV which provided the live feed of grandstands. Right now, they use BBC Radio 5 on the FOM feed on the app so you can hear this while you're in the grandstands.

So Bernie understands there needs to be more instant rich media available to consumers however he is keeping the interest of the sponsors in line because he’s suggesting that FOM can still post driver interviews online immediately but also because it doesn't hurt anyone meaning so anyone who is trying to sell TV rights is what he’s alluding to”
