Absolutely, in the future we would love to win at Le Mans. Having a victory will be a big, big pinnacle for us. It is a very romantic race. Porsche has many big victory in the past with 14 wins. We would like to add ours to the great results in the future. But this year (2014) it was on the very learning process and we are still at the background but the experience will help us at Le Mans in the future.”

To be honest, we were very surprised at we got that far. Nearly finishing as the second toward the end of the race was be an unbelievable highlight for the whole team. We left Le Mans extremely very proud as a group. The focus and energy was something which we can be very proud of.”

History shows that Jacky Ickx was one of the few racers competing in both F1 and Le Mans at the same time in later 1960s and 1970s. He had his shot in F1 and achieved two consecutive second places in 1969 and 1970. After an unsuccessful season in 1975 (which in contrast witnessed his second win at Le Mans), the Belgian (whose first Le Mans victory was in 1969) decided to save more energy for sports cars He joined Porsche during the famous Martini livery period, which kicked off an unexpected journey with another 4 victories for Porsche.

Would Jacky Ickx’s story be an inspiration to Webber? Would the Australian equal the record? He grinned and said: “Six is probably too many. I think Jacky started a little bit younger. ”

“For me, to win my first Le Mans even when it is 39, which is the case next year. That means I have to do a lot until 45 with winning every race, which is not going to happen. 6 on the belt is impossible basically. I mean it is possible but very unlikely. So let’s see. I don’t think I would still race at Le Mans when I am fifty. ”

But he does want more, not only to win at Le Mans but to secure the world title of WEC as well.

“I want to win at Le Mans. That is important for Porsche, for myself and for my teammates as well. That will be a great one to win at Le Mans in the future. Of course, we would like to try to get everything. Trying to get Le Mans and the world championship is where we can get into in the future. ”

But Audi and Toyota have been doing (in WEC) for a long time. They are very professional. We take no credit away from them. That is what we should be, that is why we are here, to race them, because we respect them a lot. But in the future I of course want Porsche to be champions and have a Le Mans victory at some stage.”
