Former GT and DTM driver Mathias Lauda (son of famous Formula One champion Niki Lauda), will make a return to the World Endurance Championship with Aston Martin Racing.

Lauda will partner GTE AM regulars Paul Dalla Lana and Pedro Lamy for all rounds of the championship as a replacement for Christoffer Nygaard. Nygaard, 28, will drive The Racers Group GT Daytona class Aston Martin V12 Vantage alongside James Davidson and Christina Nielsen.

Mathias’s previous sports car career was three years back with the Vitaphone Racing BMW team.

Lauda’s first duties for Aston Martin will be competing in this month’s Daytona 24 Hours alongside Dalla Lana, Lamy and Darren Turner, as well as racing in selected rounds of the North American Endurance Cup rounds in the GT Le Mans class.

"We have done quite a lot of research and we think that Mathias is one of the best silvers around@ said AMR boss John Gaw.

"Stefan [Mucke] has driven with him in the past and told us that he is a good team player, which is also very important."
