second Porsche 919, driven by Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb, retired early in the second hour with a reported driveline issue after suspension was initially repaired due to losing a wheel on track.

Far from being nonchalant about his foray into sports car racing, the dual Monaco and Silverstone Grand Prix winner was genuinely apprehensive about his first weekend in the WEC; holding high esteem for the event.

"We were a bit overawed at pulling the whole weekend together to be honest”, said Webber. “We all concentrated on our roles and, it is a bit of a cliche, but that is probably what got us through."

On Saturday, Webber was presented with the BRSCC John Nicol Trophy at Silverstone by Debs Nicol, (the widow of John), and the BRSCC’s Competitions Director, Drew Furlong - in recognition of Webber’s long and successful F1 career and his overall contribution to motorsport.

On receiving the award Mark said, " I am honoured to receive such a prestigious trophy and join the impressive list of previous winners."
