Race - Beijing ePrix

It wasn't long before the lights went out to start the first ever ePrix, as the top 3 remained unchanged for the first few laps. However at the back of the grid, Mahindra Racing driver Bruno Senna was involved in a collision with both Amlin Aguri cars on the first lap, which brought out the Wirelessly Charged BMWi8 Hybrid Safety Car.

After the Safety Car period, Prost retained the lead, but Montagny was busy carving his way through the field. At one point, he edged his compatriot and Andretti FE team-mate, Charles Pic close to the wall. with no harm done.

The pit stop window arrived around lap 15; the leaders pitted at the same time, relinquishing the lead of the race to British driver Sam Bird from Virgin Racing FE.

During the pit-stops, Venturi GP’s Nick Heidfeld emerged ahead of the ABT drivers and had Prost within his sights. He bided his time behind the eDams Renault driver, ready and waiting to pounce at the end of the race.

In the meantime, Prost’s team-mate Buemi who was fastest in four of the five public pre-season tests at Donington Park, had to retire on Lap 19. Just before calling it a day, he managed to post a very fast time which he hoped would bag him 2 points for Fastest Lap set. Unfortunately, this was later usurped by Aguri’s Takuma Sato.
