“Here. You have to sign this then, giving the hospital consent to perform the surgery,” she held out a clipboard and gave it to Seamus.

“Sign here,” Seamus said and lead Tobias’s hand to the line while putting the pen in his hand.

Tobias looked at the paper, not seeing anything but blurry black lines of text that he couldn’t read. He tried to focus his left eye, but it was too sensitive to the bright light of the hospital room. He let Seamus move his hand onto the paper, and he signed blindly, not knowing if the signature looked good or not. He didn’t care either way.

“The big day is here!” Seamus yelled as he entered Tobias’s hospital room.

“It’s only been two days since I got my results, dumbass,” Tobias said in a bored voice.

“Yeah, but still,” Seamus paused, “are you scared?” he asked in a quieter voice.

“Not really.”

“C’mon I know you, Toby. It’s okay if you’re scared,” Seamus said softly.

“I’m not scared okay? So stop pitying me,” he demanded and turned over to his side.
