Journey

The sound of everyone’s ragged breathing was the only thing that Tobias could hear. That, and the sound of the ball hitting against #1’s hand as he served it over the net for the third time in a row. He blocked out the sound in the stands of the audience cheering for the other team. He didn’t need another thing to observe; his brain was already focused 100% on the game at hand.

Nationals, they were so close to it. They just had to get through this one game. The game against one of the strongest teams in the prefecture. It was the 4th set, and Tobias had been in all of them. The constant pressure from the other team had worn him out more than he’d like to say.

Sweat was dripping down his face, making it more wet than dry, and his knee pads were more than just a little too hot to bear. He wiped his black hair out of his dark blue eyes quickly. Still, he played on. Just because he was a little tired, didn’t mean that he would stop giving it his all more than halfway through the game.
