A Place in Time

Desiree Tobias

The forest called my name, I couldn’t resist to wonder inside. The trees were magnificent, old as time, their branches reached out to hug me every step I took. The trees were dark in color and rich in smell of sap. Their leaves were dark green and vines wrapped around a few trees as if they were hanging on for life. Dirt was on the ground, and tiny bugs waltzed across the ground. Glistening webs from spiders were high in the air, connecting some trees together. The further I ventured in, the darker it grew. I couldn’t turn back, I was curious to what secrets this forest held. The birds hummed quietly as if they were watching over me and letting me be aware that it’s safe. Tiny flashes of lights swirled around me and I danced around joyfully. Fairies were all around me, smiling, and edging me to go on.

Sounds of water splashing came up ahead. I started to run towards it. While running towards the sound, the trees moved their branches out of the way for me. I stopped once I came upon the blue stream that glittered from the crescent moon that peeked through the trees. The stars were sprinkled across the sky, they felt so close as if I could touch them. The fairies seemed to have followed me, they were all around me again, flashing and twinkling. I sat down on a rock that was cold to the touch. The fairies continued to swirl around me, I watched in amazement as they lit up the dark forest with their tiny lights. The birds grew silent, and the only sound was from a frog that was croaking. The frog hopped into the stream splashing me with the warm water. I chuckled in delight and the fairies laughed with me.
