As they entered the town of Olympia Cindy noticed all the trees and small buildings. This place was nothing like the big city that Lyla was used to.

“Evergreen is just up this road and to the left,” Lyla said with excitement in her voice.

Cindy imagined that these final moments with her daughter would be filled with reminiscent memories of their best moments, but, in actuality, all it reminded her of was how much she hated herself for making Lyla hate her.

They arrived at the front entrance and as soon as the car stopped Lyla jumped out and started grabbing her bags from the back seat. Cindy slowly opened the door and climbed out before meeting Lyla on the other side.

“Well I guess this is goodbye for now,” Lyla said as she adjusted the heavy duffle bag on her shoulder.

“I love you honey, please be safe,” Cindy stared into Lylas wide eyes, she looked so ready to take on the world.

“Cya in December!”

The two wrapped their arms around each other, Cindy kept a tight grip, hoping the hug would last forever, but only moments went by before Lyla pulled away and started heading towards the Main Building.

The rocky road turned to smooth pavement, and the trees turned to blurs of green. Tears dripped down Cindy's chin and landed on the steering wheel. All she could think of was how much she was going to miss Lyla over the next several months.
