Chairman’s Report
Terry Casey
Chairman SA Equine Veterinary Association Cell: 083 327 0237
Christmas has come and gone. As has SONA for
another year. It was whilst watching Pres. Ramaphosa
during the SONA speech, where he stressed all the
good things that the government had done for the
country in the last year and all the plans that he would
put in place for the future, that I started evaluating
SAEVA’s work in the last year. I thought I would write
this report in the same lines.
be a member of SAEVA. This is aside from the
incredible camaraderie that exists within the
group. Some of these benefits include cheaper
congress registration for SAEVA members, cheaper
registration for BEVA, cheaper registrations for
Vetpd safari congress and the EHU magazine.
We are actively looking at several others one of
which is a membership to an online veterinary
CPD platform.
Work done in the last year include:
• Phenylbutazone (Pbz) . SA is still the only
country that has banned its use entirely. Most
countries in the world have a limited use factor.
SAEVA is still actively working on resurrecting
its use. To this end a small working group has
been set up to promote its readmission into the
country. After SAVA’s recent high court action
which they won we have involved the Sava
working group Gert Steyn. After one meeting
with them we have produced our second appeal
document. They have suggested a way forward
which we are looking into at the moment.
More of this will follow in the year upcoming.
• Members benefits. I think everyone would agree
that the last couple of years have been tough
from an economic perspective. The executive
has continuously tried to add extra benefits to
4
As with everything we have had some difficulties
though in achieving all these benefits. Chief amongst
these has been an efficient member communications
channel. To this end over the last year we have created
several communications channels. The Facebook page
is being admirably run by Johnny Cave. The SAEVA
members WhatsApp group exists now and is being
used as an announcement page. It is still work in
progress. We urge all members that are not involved in
either of these two platforms to please contact either
Johnny Cave ([email protected]) or myself (terry@
fourwaysequine.co.za) so that we can rectify this. At
this congress we will also have in place for the first
time an App page which we can use at this congress
and all future congresses. Between congress time it
will be used as a communication tool to the SAEVA
members. All comments and suggestions wrt. this app
will be willingly accepted.
