AM Sessions 8:00 to 11:15AM Session 1 — PK-12 Yoga for the Classroom: Creating a Calming Environment Diana Latorre Location: Fermi Gym This session will add to educators' classroom management skills and help them create a safer and more effective learning environment. This will be a hands-on course where participants will work in groups to review and teach breathing and yoga exercises that they can share with their students to reduce stress and anxiety and create a sense of focus. Participants will experience a yoga class and will need to wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat, towel/blanket, water, and paper and pen. Session 2 — 2-5 ELA SBAC Success: It’s All About the Rigor Joan Marsh, Dawn Marchese, and Taryn Jennings Location: Crandall Library This session will provide teachers with detailed information about the ELA portion of the Smarter Balanced Assessment, including navigating the portal, viewing the practice test, and reviewing links to detailed information about target areas. Teachers will be introduced to a grid for developing Smarter Balanced-aligned questions to use to create their own questions for daily instruction. Teachers need to bring laptops and grade level texts for reference. Session 3 — K– 12 Learn More About Lexia Adrienne Snow and Aaron Samoza Loca% %on: JFK Innova% %on Lab Session 4 — 6-8 English Middle School Revision Strategies Dr. Kristina Elias-Staron Location: JFK Rm 18 Red Wing An overview of the objectives and correlations of Lexia will be shared with teachers. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the site and its many resources available to students. Teachers should bring their electronic devices. In this session, middle school English teachers will be presented with a variety of ways to incorporate the teaching of revision skills into writing workshop. Page 1
