It was a wonderful opportunity to catch up with many valued Enhesa customers as well as make several new friends who stopped by to admire the debut of Enhesa’s new booth. Jack made a presentation to the General Session to give the assembled auditors an update on the latest trends in EHS regulations in the US, with a particular focus on how these will impact those of us out there doing audits. Meanwhile Paul updated the plenary session with the results of discussions at last autumn’s Europe Region meeting in Leamington Spa, England, and later led a lively discussion of the International Interest Group break-out session. A special high- Enhesa Flash May/June 2014 light of the program was the Keynote address by Dr. John Howard, Director of the National Institutes of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) on managing risks in the workplace and everyday life. Also during the three day meeting a broad range of topics were addressed, including profiles of individual corporate audit programs at GM, Henkel, the UK’s National Grid, and Boeing; an overview of Canada’s new Responsible Care Act; a discussion of the pros and cons of homegrown versus off the shelf software for audit support; the results of a 42-company, seven-year task force initiative to reduce and prevent fatalities and serious injuries in the workplace; and an introduction to new audit challenges in the Canadian province of Quebec by the President of the Quebec Association of Environmental Auditors. And, as is usually the case at AR meetings, a number of highly interactive group activities and discussions took place, including one exploring the critical issues that EHS audit program managers and auditors face in the planning and execution of EHS audits, and a full suite of break-out Industry and Interest Group Roundtables. 25
