It ’ s fascinating , and you know , I ’ ve gotten pretty good !” She also spends time researching new topics that she doesn ’ t know or fully understand , like things that get mentioned on the news , or unfamiliar words in books that she reads on her Kindle . She ’ s always been a music lover , so she spends a lot of time listening to music and researching the artists either online or by reading books about them . Right now she ’ s reading “ Born to Run ” about Bruce Springsteen . “ My daughter asked , ‘ Mom , are you really interested in Bruce Springsteen ’ s life ,’ and I said ‘ Sure ! Why not ?” she said with her contagious smile .
The last piece to Evelyn ’ s vitality she says is red wine and chocolate . “ I look forward to 5 o ’ clock each evening ,” she laughed playfully “ I do enjoy my glass of wine .” And while she says she was never big on sweets in the past , she does think that her indulgence in a small amount is good , even if it ’ s just in the satisfaction of doing something you enjoy .
Though Evelyn ’ s got the right idea and a great mix of activities to keep her feeling good , she still gushed about HAC , “ Who I am – I owe it to this club . The social aspect has largely been my biggest source of interaction

Evelyn was a big concert goer and dance lover in her younger years . She even won a dance contest in New York when she was 21 !
Evelyn ’ s daughter , Linda , attended the University of Delaware , where she met her husband and eventually had three children . Evelyn and her husband eventually moved to Delaware to be closer to their family .
Evelyn ’ s been a member for almost 13 years !
Evelyn worked at Macy ’ s on 34th Street in Manhattan when she was 16 years old in the millinery ( ladies ’ hats ) department , during World War II . She worked on Thursday nights and Saturdays for a salary of $ 1.00 per hour .
