Apples to Apples

Ah, September is here! Before you know
it, we will be switching from summer
to fall in no time. With the change in
seasons comes a change in harvests.
Lucky for us, we get to enjoy a variety of
fruits and vegetables that thrive during
this new season.
One of the most delicious and nutritious fall crops is the
apple. We have heard the saying a million times, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” but why is that? Apples
are rich in antioxidants and flavonoids, which help fight
illness, inflammation, and aging. They are also packed
with fiber to help us feel fuller longer, as well as aid our
digestion process. Apples can help us fight diabetes,
hypertension, heart disease, and more!
Here are some excellent apple recipes to try this fall:
serves 1
ingredients:
1 apple, cored and chopped
1 carrot, peeled and chopped
1/2 cucumber, chopped
instructions:
Place ingredients into a food processor or
blender until juiced. Pour into a chilled glass
and enjoy!

APPLE & HONEY GALETTE
serves 6
ingredients:
14 oz. store-bought pie dough
2 thinly sliced apples
1/2 cup of brie cheese
3 tbsp. of sliced almonds
1 tbsp. of brown sugar
1/2 tsp. of cinnamon
honey
instructions:
Lay out the pie crust on a baking sheet. Top
with brie, brown sugar, sliced almonds, and
cinnamon. Cover the cheese layer with 2 apples, thinly sliced (fanned out). Drizzle the top
of the pie with honey and pinch the edges to
form a crust. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes,
until golden. Enjoy!
APPLE & ARUGULA SALAD
serves 1
ingredients:
1 cup of arugula
1 apple, sliced
1 oz. of sharp cheddar cheese, grated
2 tbsp. of caramelized walnuts
1 tbsp. of balsamic vinegar
instructions:
Combine ingredients into a bowl. Toss until
balsamic vinegar is evenly distributed. Enjoy!
