I think
Method™
is like
the golden ticket. We
can tell someone exactly
where they need to work
out to burn fat. Where
they need to work out to
increase ATP, the body’s
energy stores. And exactly
what heart rate they should
not exceed at the risk of
injury. For my runners, I can
use the test to see where
their body is currently
training most of the time
and where they need to
go to increase their athletic
performance.
Personally, I learned I
don’t need to work as hard
during all my workouts to
achieve the results I want.

I think it helped me realize that
I needed to do a little bit more
cardio in a steady state than
I have been. I was focusing
always on the high intensity,
and it helped me bring it back
a little bit. My goals are, at
51 and moving forward, to be lean, flexible, and
mobile. Now I will put aside maybe some of the
heavier weights and the pounding, and Method™
has helped me come to that realization that I can
still burn fat without overdoing it daily. It’s helping.
It’s helping me from a mental state too; giving
me permission to take a step back to move three
steps forward. It says it’s okay to be here for a pe-
riod of time and just enjoy the aerobic exercise, as
opposed to always trying to take it high intensity.
The reality of the situation is, the way you
see progress is getting to your prime with more
intensity as you move forward. So I should be able
to stay in my prime for this period of time – mine
just happens to be a year – where I practice my
prescription, and then next year, it should take me
longer time and more intensity to get to my prime.
That’s how you’re going to see growth.

handle on how their body works. Instead of group-
ing everyone in one lump-sum, saying if you’re
this age, this is your max heart rate – it seems
unrealistic. I can have somebody that’s fresh off
the couch and somebody that’s been working out
five days a week for the past 20 years – applying
that lump-sum rule didn’t seem to make sense.
With Method™, it does make sense. Even with all
the variables in between, now we can see we
have somebody that maybe just doesn’t oxidize
well, and you can tell them to take a step back.
Then they don’t feel so bad about what they can
and can’t do – it’s really hard watching everyone
succeed and feeling like, “how come I can’t do
this?” And now we know the reason.
I have 10 people in the Lifestyle Challenge, and

I was pleasantly surprised with
my results from the Method™

thought my current running
program was sufficient since
I was placing first in my 5ks.
I guess I always knew deep
down that I needed to add some more interval
training to my program to get even faster – I felt
that something was missing.

meaningful numbers that are keeping me
accountable. I learned that I was spending too
much time in my Prime Zone, which is where I
felt most comfortable. Since I was coming in first
place in my runs, I didn’t think I needed to change

have a target to shoot for. The peak number tells
me, “this is my top end for developing output for
my interval training.” I don’t need to go past that
number since I don’t want to burn muscle. I now
know what I have to do. I have incorporated more

difference and improvement in my training and
run results.
