82 NETWORKING EVENT WINNER Mobile Beauty Therapist Beauty Business Dee Bailey talks about why she has a beautiful future Present Dee Bailey is part of a fast growing beauty franchise called Cuticles. She is a mobile beauty therapist based in Woodford, Essex. Offering a wide range of pampering treatments in the comfort of your own home she can also offer treatments on–site in the work place. One treatment she provides is the ‘Spa Sole Recovery Pedicure’, two glorious hours of sheer bliss, your feet are soaked, scrubbed and slathered in a mask then cosseted in warm foot gloves before being massaged to utter heaven, after which, toe nails are perfectly polished – all in relaxation of your home. Dee says, “With TV programmes like Sex In The City, Desperate Housewives and Footballers Wives there is more awareness of the range of treatments available at home, beauty is a growth industry and grooming is the name of the game.” Some of her services include, manicures, pedicures, waxing, tanning, massage, facials, eyelash and eyebrow tinting and makeup application. She attends hen parties, pamper parties, baby showers, weddings, ladies indulgence evenings, schools and corporate events. Past Dee’s background is in IT. After graduating from University with a BSC (Hons) degree in Computing she worked her way to a senior level in networks. In 2004 she was made redundant and it was then that she made the decision to change her career and enter the beauty business. With the support of her husband Derrick, Dee took her first course in nail enhancement at the Creative Nail Design Academy. After the first 6 months Dee was finding it hard to build her client base. “It was difficult to get your name and services out to the local community. When you’re out there on your own with little funds, no PR or marketing and especially no network it can be very lonely” It was then that she read about Cuticles franchise opportunities in a trade magazine and was intrigued by what they had to offer her. Armed with a new brand name, corporate uniform and supplies she set out to conquer the beauty industry. They also provide business advice, training and a network of other franchisee for support. Some of Dee’s clients include: Ford, Grazia Magazine, Evening Standard, In Style Magazine, The engage | uk ISSUE THREE 2007
